Pop Culture: Society and Roller Skating

Through skating in comics, movies, and music, see how roller skating has influenced and is influenced by everyday life.

Pop Culture: Society and Roller Skating illustrates the creative ways in which roller skating has and continues to influence everyday life. From the early 1900s to the present, NMRS has many objects which detail ideas from U.S. culture. This exhibit demonstrates how ideas found in movies, comics, and music, reveal the impact of roller skating as a tool in our various U.S. cultures. These mediums help us understand society's hopes and fears, and seeing where roller skates appear offer interesting insights into the history of roller skating.
